USA moves to ban its own cars over software concerns
29-09-2024 10:00
As you may have heard, the government of the United States has been discussing banning all automotive software coming from China and Russia. As you may have guessed, doing so can backfire against U.S. automakers such as Buick and Lincoln.
The problem is that both companies make and ship some of their most popular vehicles from China. These include the Buick Envision and the Lincoln Nautilus, North America’s best-selling Lincoln model right now. If the ban is enacted anytime soon, it will essentially remove these cars from sale in the USA until new software is developed. That’s a risky situation for the already-struggling car brands.
