Jeep confirms developing Renegade EV
The off-roader manufacturer has confirmed the rumors that a compact and affordable electric crossover is in development. It is called Renegade and is set to go on sale no later than 2027 priced from under $25,000.
The small size of the CUV is going to help with the cost reduction, the company says. This makes us suspect that Jeep may be using the Citroen e-C3 platform for it, which is around 4 meters (13.12 ft.) long. The electric C3 sends 113 PS (111 hp / 83 kW) to one axle and has approximately 322 km (200 miles) of range when fully charged.
Having said that, it is also possible that Jeep is designing the Renegade EV based on its own Avenger CUV sold almost exclusively in the USA. The original Renegade (see the gallery and the video) retired in North America in late 2023, and it is unknown how much its all-electric namesake will resemble it, if at all.
Jeep hopes to increase its annual sales to 1 million units in the USA and 1.5 million worldwide by 2027. To achieve this, the automaker envisions an expansion of its portfolio to 13 different models, some of them fully electric.
