Meet the VW ID.7 Tourer, the brand’s first electric family car
Volkswagen has complemented its all-electric vehicle lineup with the first wagon named the ID.7 Tourer.
The company says it would put the new model somewhere in between the Passat Variant and the Arteon Shooting Brake in terms of body design. It is rather practical-looking with 605 liters (21.4 cubic feet) of default trunk space. Folding the rear seats and piling stuff up to the ceiling increases the available cargo space to 1,714 liters (60.5 cu. ft.).
The Tourer version of the ID.7 will be sold exclusively in Europe. The buyers will be choosing between two battery sizes, 77 and 86 kWh, the latter rated for 685 km (425 miles) of range. The range for the smaller battery is still pending, but the ID.7 liftback gets 616 km (382 miles) per charge out of it. For charging, the smaller battery takes currents up to 175 kW and the bigger one can take 200 kW.
There is only electric motor in the lineup. It produces 286 PS (282 hp / 210 kW) and sends them to the rear end. Later on, Volkswagen may add a dual-motor/AWD variant to the lineup, but this isn’t official yet.
In its most basic form, the car has an advanced heads-up display featuring AR support and a smaller digital dash. The head unit spans 15 inches of diagonal size and comes with a ChatGPT-based AI assistant.
Other innovative features include seats with improved built-in massage motors, power-assisted air vents, and a panoramic glass roof with variable dimming. The latter is especially impressive because it’s an expensive feature normally only found in high-end premium and luxury vehicles.
