British company vows to bring back two Ford rally legends
UK-based Boreham Motorworks will be releasing two different supercar series inspired by some of the most iconic Ford rally vehicles – the Escort Mk1 from the 1970s and the RS200 that ran in the Groupe B in the 1980s.
Contrary to the modern trends, the cars will be neither restomods nor electric. Boreham has signed a license agreement with Ford and plans to produce the Escort as a continuation model based on original blueprints. It will even get the VIN numbers starting from where the original Escort left off.
Both vehicles will be limited in production and targeted towards the retro car enthusiasts who appreciate having “analog” controls in a vehicle. Of course, some innovations – such as LED lighting – are inevitable.
The revived RS200 will feature a composite body and a transaxle engine driving all four wheels via a modern AWD system. The Escort will be as close to the original as possible, or so we are told.
Preorders are already available, but the production quantity remains to be announced. The company expects to be making deliveries to all major world markets. In the future, Boreham Motorworks wants to bring back five other Ford models with a rich career in motorsports.
