Video: Watch a stock diesel van trio do its best on the drag strip
The latest video by carwow compares the raw acceleration capabilities of three diesel-powered commercial vans sold in Europe.
The Ford Transit is both the heaviest and the slowest of the trio, its 2.0-liter engine churning out 170 PS (168 hp / 125 kW) and 360 Nm (266 lb-ft) of torque. The transmission is eight-speed automatic, and the curb weight is 2.2 metric tons, or 4,850 lbs.
The Peugeot Expert manages to extract 180 PS (178 hp / 132 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque from the same displacement volume. It uses a simpler six-speed AT and tips the scales at just 1,657 kilos (3,653 lbs).
And then there is the Volkswagen Transporter with its 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission conveys the momentum to the wheels. It slots in between its two rivals in terms of weight with 2,005 kg (4,420 lbs) before liquids.
All three contenders are FWD. How do they line up at the finish? See for yourself!
