Porsche Cayenne EV hits the streets
Porsche has provided proof that it won’t leave the Cayenne without ICE engines just yet. In its latest media communication, the Stuttgart automaker said the Cayenne would go all-electric in the next – fourth – generation, but not before the current one receives a big update. The two generations will also be sold side-by-side for a while.
The company has also posted some images of the facelifted gen.3 Cayenne. It commented that the last year’s facelift was so extensive, it could very well be considered a generational change. In preparing the next refresh, the engineering department will prioritize drivetrain improvements. The V8 in particular should become more efficient and at the same time cleaner to conform with the new EU regulations.
As for the impending fourth generation, it is still a ways away at this point. Porsche says it will be based on the PPE platform with 800V electrics, but doesn’t disclose any details beyond that. We do know the first pre-production examples have already been produced and are now running tests on public roads around the world. They will have to cover millions of kilometers before the production gets the green light.
Speaking about the company’s strategy moving forward, Porsche CEO Oliver Blume said that the Cayenne will remain on sale with all kinds of powertrains well into the next decade. This means that you will still be able to grab an ICE version or a hybrid, even after the EV comes out.
