General Motors postpones e-truck plans to 2026
The North American automotive corporation won’t be launching the new EV production line at its Orion Assembly plant in Detroit until 2026, Bloomberg reports. This means that the previously announced Chevrolet Silverado EV won’t be coming to us anytime soon. The reason, as usual, is lower-than-expected EV demand.
This isn’t the first time GM pushes back the Silverado EV launch. The original plans were for late 2023, but the company postponed the production start for 2025. Now that the electric vehicle market is in a steady decline, the company is revising its schedules for many EVs, including Buick hybrids.
With this news, the writing seems to be on the wall for the company’s ambitious electrification plans. GM has been targeting 1,000,000 EVs made on its Ultium platform before the end of 2025, a number that appears way too optimistic in the present conditions.
