Changan Deepal S05 e-SUV hits road in China
Deepal, a Chinese car brand owned by Changan (see video), has proceeded to testing its new mid-size battery crossover named the S05. It was registered in the local Ministry of Industry database not long ago and has now been spotted on the road. Car News China believes the deliveries may begin as soon as Q3 2024.
We have already seen an official photo of the SUV in mid-May, but the spy shots add context. For one thing, it’s obvious that the interior is still far from being finalized despite sporting a squared-off steering wheel and a large vertical infotainment display.
On the outside, the car features a solid panel where the radiator grille usually is, stacked headlights with slim DRLs and thin taillights linked by a LED strip spanning the entire tailgate width.
According to the certification sheet, the Deepal S05 is sized 4,620 x 1,900 x 1,600 mm with 2,880 mm between the axles. Customers will be choosing from multiple wheel options ranging from 18 to 20 inches large, and there will be an optional panoramic sunroof with a luggage rack.
In its entry-level EV spec, the car will come equipped with a single motor rated at 238 PS (235 hp / 175 kW). A battery with a capacity of 56.12 kWh will give it up to 510 km (317 miles) of CLTC-rated driving range.
There will also be two range-extender hybrids on offer. Both will utilize a 1.5-liter, 98-PS (97-hp / 72-kW) engine for charging and a 218-PS (215-hp / 160-kW) motor for propulsion. The main difference will be in the battery size, which will amount to 17.08 kWh in the base spec and 27.28 kWh in the long-range spec. The respective all-electric ranges are manufacturer-estimated at 100 and 155 km (62 and 96 miles).
The media in China speculate that the new Deepal S05 will be priced at roughly 120,000 Yuan before options, which translates into U.S. $16,500.
