A company called Rolls-Royce Holdings has unveiled a new mtu-series turbocharged V10 diesel engine rated at 1,495 PS (1,475 hp / 1,100 kW), which is intended to function as a part of a hybrid powertrain.
Moving forward, the company plans to boost the unit further to 1,631 PS (1,609 hp / 1,200 kW). The issue is, you won’t find this kind of engine in a production Rolls-Royce. The company is unaffiliated with the same-name car brand or even BMW and specializes in developing aircraft and marine vessel engines. This particular unit will be powering tanks and other armored vehicles weighing between 50 and 70 metric tons (roughly 110,000–154,000 lbs).
