4th-gen Bentley Continental GT bows in Great Britain
Bentley has unveiled what it calls the fourth generation of the Continental GT. If anything, it looks more like a major mid-life refresh than a new generation.
The range-topping Speed version now runs on a modified Ultra Performance Hybrid powertrain borrowed from the latest Porsche Panamera. In its Bentley version, the twin-turbo V8 produces 600 PS (592 hp / 441 kW) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque. A 190-PS (187-hp / 140-kW) electric motor sits integrated in the eight-speed preselector DCT, hitting it with 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of instant torque when needed. Together, the motors can deliver a maximum of 782 PS (771 hp / 575 kW) and 1,000 Nm (738 lb-ft) of torque to the wheels.
Equipped like this, the new Continental GT Speed hits 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.2 seconds and can go all the way to 335 km/h (208 mph). The GTC Convertible – which has premiered alongside the coupe – is a little slower than that with a 3.4-second sprint time and a top speed capped at 285 km/h (177 mph).
A 25.9-kWh battery pack mounted below the trunk floor delivers enough juice for 81 km (50 miles) of all-electric range. The top speed cannot exceed 140 km/h (87 mph) in this mode. A standard 11kW charger supplied with the car lets you replenish most of the charge in under three hours.
The exterior stays largely unchanged, and the same goes for the cabin.
The sales are slated to begin in Q3 2024. An entry-level Continental GT spec running on a hybridized V6 will be introduced later.
