Aston Martin has unveiled its next supercar: the Valiant. Although based on the Valour platform, it differs enough from the original to warrant a new model name, the company argues. Only 38 units will be made, all of them already pre-sold to V.I.P. customers.
Apparently, it was Formula One driver Fernando Alonso who inspired the British company to produce the car. He wanted to see a sportier and more driver-focused variant of the Valour, and agreed to assist the automaker in designing and fine-tuning the Valiant when the project received the green light.
On the outside, the coupe looks markedly different from the original thanks to a new body kit complete with a front splitter and a fixed rear wing, as well as its own distinct styling cues. The bodywork is composite all around, and the 21-inch lightweight wheels feature carbon-fiber garnishes for superior drag performance.
The interior makes the car suitable for daily driving – it’s street-legal, too – but the focus has clearly been placed on motorsports. There is a roll semi-cage installed in the back, and the front row is represented by a pair of Recaro Podium seats with four-point harnesses. The transmission tunnel emphasizes the racing aesthetic with a partially exposed six-speed manual gearbox.
Power for the Valiant comes from the same 5.2-liter V12 engine as the Valour it is based upon, but dialed up from 715 to 745 PS (from 705 to 735 hp; from 526 to 548 kW, respectively). The torque stays capped at its usual 753 Nm (555 lb-ft).
The company never provided any sprint times for either model, but the Valiant should be considerably faster even just because of its reduced weight. For example, the rear subframe was 3D-printed to be 3 kilos (6.6 lbs) lighter than the original. The wheels help shed another 14 kilos (30.8 lbs) in total, and the track-focused main battery helps get rid of another 11.5 kilos (25 lbs).
The chassis benefits from Multimatic ASV shock absorbers capable of changing setting every 6 milliseconds. The standard spec also includes carbon-ceramic brakes with 410mm (16-inch) rotors at the front and 360mm (14-inch) ones at the back.
