Polestar has complemented its 3 SUV lineup with a new spec that ditches the engine at the front axle to get a 650-km (404-mile) range. You can already order one in Europe starting from €79,890 – around €7,000 cheaper than the AWD version. The USA and Australia will get this version later on.
The Polestar 3 Single Motor relies on a sole electric motor to drive its rear axle with 299 PS (295 hp / 220 kW) and 490 Nm (361 lb-ft) of torque. It needs 7.8 seconds to go from standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) and is identical to its AWD peers except for the missing front-axle motor. This means that the chassis and the suspension, the Brembo brakes and the 111-kWh battery pack are all the same.
With the battery maxed out, the car can cover up to 650 km (404 miles) per the strict WLTP standard. It’s worth noting that the dual-motor spec isn’t far behind with its 630 km (391 miles). Two motors also enable it to sprint almost 3 seconds faster and hit 210 km/h (130 mph) in a straight line, while the Single Motor maxes out at 180 km/h (112 mph).
As usual, the production will take place at Polestar factories in China and the United States. In the meantime, the company has finally started shipping the Polestar 3 Dual Motor to those who had ordered it a few years before in Gothenburg, Sweden. The deliveries had been scheduled for the last summer, but took over a year to sort out.
