The more-than-a-century-long history of the Geneva International Motor Show is over now that the organizers are struggling to keep it afloat and profitable.
The Covid-19 pandemic has played the key role in dissolving one of the automotive industry’s most iconic events. It was canceled for 2020, 2021 and 2022 and subsequently took place in Qatar under the name “GIMSQ” (the Geneva International Motor Show in Qatar).
A decision was made to bring the show back to Geneva for 2024, but it failed to attract enough visitors to be considered a success. The organizing committee behind the event has now officially announced its permanent closure.
For its own part, the GIMSQ team agreed to take things over from here. It remains to be seen how much of a success the trade show will be once it permanently moves to Middle East.
