McKinsey & Co has conducted a survey in the United States to find out how much car owners appreciated having Android Auto or Apple CarPlay in their vehicle.
As it turned out, 30% of prospective EV buyers and 35% of those looking for a more traditional car would stop looking if they discovered that the car they were interested in had no smartphone integration. 30% potential EV owners and 17% ICE car buyers would even pay extra for such an option, if available.
The issue may not seem pressing as roughly 90 percent of all vehicles sold in the United States support at least one of these infotainment protocols. However, companies like General Motors, Tesla and Rivian insist on replacing them with their own, in-house solutions. As the study shows, this is a dealbreaker for quite a large target audience.
