The Chinese automobile company has commissioned a light passenger car factory in Uzbekistan, its first one outside of the domestic market.
It is situated in the town of Jizzakh and took just a year and a half to build, the company points out. The construction began in December 2022, and the first BYD cars went on sale outside of China in April 2023. The industrial complex assembles cars from small prefabricated units and is only missing painting and welding facilities right now. In the near future, BYD plans to increase its production capacity from 50,000 to 200,000 units per year. The ultimate goal is at 500,000 units per year.
The first cars to have rolled off the production line in Uzbekistan were a Chazor DM-i sedan (known as the Destroyer 05 in China) and a Song Plus DM-i SUV.
