Geely Monjaro becomes Renault Grand Koleos
Renault has come to the recently concluded auto show in Busan to unveil the Grand Koleos, a crossover it co-designed with Geely based on its Monjaro model. The shipments will begin in the second half of the year, and you can already leave a preorder even though the prices haven’t been announced yet.
Starting at the front end, the Grand Koleos has Monjaro headlamps alongside its own bumper and radiator grille. The body outlines are the same, and the interior is unchanged, too, unless you count the new steering wheel and minor tunnel modifications.
On the upside, Renault is offering a wider selection of higher-quality trimming materials for the CUV. There is even a version called Esprit Alpine, which brings along some exclusive décor and is considered premium even by European standards. The three dash displays are nothing new, but there is an added 10-speaker audio system from Bose on board. The South Korean version of the car also supports a number of online services.
For propulsion, the new Grand Koleos relies on an adapted version of the Renault E-Tech hybrid powertrain. It comprises a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine and an electric motor and sends 245 PS (242 hp / 180 kW) exclusively to the front axle. Renault reckons that owners can make up to 75% of their daily trips without ever firing up the main engine, as long as they don’t need to exceed 130 km/h (80 mph). Compared to a similar ICE car, the manufacturer claims the hybrid is 32% more fuel-efficient.
The Renault Grand Koleos will also be available with a BorgWarner part-time AWD system, but this version of the car will be non-electrified. It will rely on a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 211 PS (208 hp / 155 kW), linked to an eight-speed automatic transmission. A FWD version of the same car will also be offered with the same power output, but a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
