Following an announcement made a while ago, Hyundai has finally shown us the Inster EV.

The all-electric car is based on the same chassis as the Casper for India, but stands apart from it thanks to new 17-inch wheels, redesigned bumpers and a solid slab where the radiator grille usually is. The charging port resides right behind this slab. The lights all around sport a pixelated look typical of the brand’s other EVs.

Size-wise, the Inster is 230 mm (9 inches) longer than the Casper and has 180 mm (7 inches) of extra wheelbase. Its precise dimensions are 3,825 x 1,610 x 1,575 mm (149.4 x 62.9 x 61.5 inches) with 2,580 mm (100.8 inches) between the axles. The minimum trunk volume is 280 liters (9.9 cubic feet).

The interior looks more or less the same as that of the Casper, but the Inster benefits from two 10.25-inch displays, a more up-to-date three-spoke steering wheel, and a transmission selector mounted at the steering column. The Casper makes do with a traditional lever on the tunnel.

In its most basic spec, the EV gets a single electric motor rated at 97 PS (96 hp / 71 kW) and 147 Nm (108 lb-ft) of torque. A 42-kWh battery pack gives it over 300 km (186 miles) of range, per the manufacturer.

Paying extra nets you a 115-PS (113 hp / 86-kW) motor and a bigger 49-kWh battery pack delivering up to 355 km (220 miles) of range. Both versions support charging from outlets supplying up to 12 kW, and can go from 10 to 80 percent full in half an hour.

Sales in South Korea will start later this summer. Looking forward, Hyundai plans to offer the Inster EV in a number of countries in Europe, Middle East and Southeastern Asia. All prices are pending.
