Deepal, an automobile brand founded by Changan, has unveiled a facelift version of its S7 mid-size SUV in China. According to Car News China, the car is now known as the S07 to avoid a trademark collision with Audi in Europe, where it should eventually go on sale.
The new Deepal S07 is available in two main flavors – hybrid and all-electric – and benefits from new headlights comprising 696 LEDs each. Drivers can program the diode panels to display simple animations, warning passers-by or displaying the remaining charge charge.
The car also takes advantage of the company’s latest-and-greatest self-driving system. It is a part of the updated Huawei ADAS package called the Qiankun, which is considered rather mature by the Chinese market standards (it’s in the third generation now).
The interior layout stays largely the same. An enormous 55-inch display replaces the dashboard, and there is a dedicated 15.6-inch screen for the infotainment system. There are indications that Deepal will offer an optional 12.3-inch display for the front passenger, but it hasn’t been announced yet.
In its EV guise, the new S07 packs a single 218-PS (215-hp / 160-kW) electric motor and can cover 620 km (385 miles) per charge. The hybrid variant benefits from a range-extender engine that makes 130 PS (128 hp / 95 kW) and lets the car cover up to 1,120 km (696 miles) in combined mode. Even in all-electric mode, this version is good for 120–200 km (75–124 miles) of range, the manufacturer claims.
